Prof. Kanta Subbarao from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, CHU de Québec–Université Laval Research Center, will give a guest lecture at IVI on the topic “Preparing for a(nother) Respiratory Virus Pandemic.“
The lecture will take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at 3:00 pm (s.t.) in the Histology Lecture Hall, Müllerstraße 59, 6020 Innsbruck.

Short Bio
Kanta Subbarao is a virologist and paediatric infectious disease physician. Her research focuses on molecular virology and vaccine development for emerging viruses that pose a potential pandemic threat, including influenza viruses, SARS, MERS, and SARS-CoV-2.
She holds a Canada Excellence Research Chair on Biology and Control of Zoonotic and Pandemic Respiratory Viruses at Laval University in Quebec and is a professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Melbourne.
She received the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Society for Respiratory Viruses and the 2025 Edward Jenner Award. She is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, the American Academy of Microbiology, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
