Dr. Aleksandar Antanasijevic from the Institute of Virology and Structural Immunology at EPF Lausanne, Switzerland, will give a guest lecture at IVI on the topic of “Uncovering molecular determinants of antibody immunodominance by cryoEM“.

The lecture will take place on Thursday, 26 March 2026 at 3 p.m. in the Pharmacology Lecture Hall, Peter-Mayr-Straße 1, 6020 Innsbruck.

We are delighted to welcome him as our guest and cordially invite all interested parties to attend the lecture and the subsequent discussion.

Short Bio

Aleksandar Antanasijevic is a structural biologist with expertise in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), X-ray crystallography, and electron microscopy, applied to virus and vaccine research. Since 2022, he has been an Assistant Professor at EPFL, where he leads his own research group. Throughout his career, he has studied the structures of viral antigens from influenza, coronaviruses, HIV, enteroviruses, respiratory syncytial virus, Lassa virus, and others, resulting in more than 60 structures deposited in the Protein Data Bank (PDB).

Over the past two decades, structural biology has undergone a major transformation driven by technological advances, making it possible to assemble collections of structures and use them to extract biochemical insights or build predictive models. The work Dr. Antanasijevic will present is one such example. Over a two-year period, his team resolved more than 100 structures of several HIV Env antigens in complex with polyclonal antibodies targeting different immunodominant epitopes, and used these structural data to train a machine-learning approach to identify related sites across diverse HIV sequences. This work serves as a proof of principle for developing more general computational approaches to model and engineer epitope immunodominance across viral, bacterial, and self antigens.
