One Health Tyrol Symposium 2025
On 22 October 2025, the third edition of the “One Health Tirol – Together for Healthy Humans and Animals” symposium took place in Innsbruck, jointly organised by the Vetmeduni Vienna and the Medical University of Innsbruck.
Among the presenters, Gisa Gerold from the Institute of Virology at the Medical University of Innsbruck addressed the growing threat posed by vector-borne viruses. Her talk focused on Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE) and Chikungunya virus (CHIKV), highlighting their current spread and significance at the European, Austrian, and Tyrolean level. Driven by ecological changes and increasing global mobility, both pathogens are becoming an ever more pressing public health concern in regions previously considered low-risk.
The symposium brought together experts from human and veterinary medicine to discuss shared health challenges under the One Health framework — a reminder that the health of people, animals, and the environment is deeply interconnected.
